I've been reading a number of Step-Mom message boards and been interested/concerned why most women refer to their Hubby as DH. Well, the mystery was solved yesterday thanks to Step Mom Magazine. I now know that DH stands for Dear Husband. Twelve years later I'm finally getting the secret code of my fellow Step-mothers. Don't rush to judgement, I am blonde after all. Twelve years is a reasonable amount of time in blonde years. I mean seriously, I was really starting to wonder why everyone's hubby had the same damn initials!
I call my Dear Husband, Hubby or Raylan. I started calling him Hubby within minutes of tying the knot. It just seemed a lot more fun and playful than Husband, honey or babe. Everyone in our household was quick to follow suit. When Raylan calls me his photo and HUBBY flash on my screen. He even likes it so much that he refers to himself in the third person as "Your Hubby....." It quite strange when I say his actual given name, so I rarely do. Hubby has become common place in our household, even the kids refer to him as your "Hubby this, that or the other."
When I started my blog, I seriously considered just sticking with Hubby as his name for purposes of the blog, but when I talk about him in relation to his Exes and such it just felt to personal to use with them so I needed a name. But not just any name.
My Hubby and I started watching a little show called "justified" on FX. We fell in love with the show immediately, but for different reasons. I mean who doesn't love watching Timothy Olyphant! He just happens to play the lead character, Raylan. And I kinda have like a major CRUSH on him!
His character is an imperfect person trying to do the best he can in an imperfect world. He has a big heart and he's a Country boy. So when it came time to give my Hubby a name, Raylan just rolled off my tongue like it was his given name. In the past few months, we have converted Jax and Little Hart as fans of "justified" Still working on Elle, I know she'll come around!
So to all my fellow Step-Mom's my DH just has a different name; Hubby or Raylan depending on my mood. Hope you all will become fans of my Raylan/Hubby as well. He's my real life Timothy Olyphant!
